Canadian Seal Industry - Time For A Change Of Modus Operandi

TORONTO - Pamela Anderson cuddled a seal mascot Friday and used her iconic Barbie-like assets to draw attention to what she called the "shameful practice" of seal hunting in her homeland.

Anderson told a gathering outside Ontario's legislature that she wanted to save Canada from further international embarrassment over a "barbaric massacre."

"When I travel all over the world, the Canadian seal hunt is a huge issue that people talk to me about," she said. "So I'm trying to save some embarrassment."

Anderson, 42, braved blustering winds and a bone-chilling damp while clad in a one shoulder sheath and strappy heels. Her handlers ensured not a drop of rain reached her primped hair and makeup...... This is a news story from Yahoo news and the rest of the news can be read Here

Most Canadians who support seal harvesting believe it is an economic mainstay, just like many other areas of the economy that keeps the Canadian industrial machinery humming. The Northerners have lived off seals for a very long time that harvesting them is just second nature to the psyche of the hunters.

Before now, nobody cared very much about how seals were hunted, because not many people had access to the graphic nature of how seals were bludgeoned to their deaths before being skinned, quartered and expropriated of every part of their being for the benefit of their tormentors.

Times have changed however and graphic images of how this sordid affair is carried on in a country as advanced as Canada finds its ways around the globe drawing all kinds of criticism and sympathies from everyone who does not have the stomach to handle the vicious methods of slaughter that are perpetrated on those helpless and innocent looking animals.

The way seal hunting is carried on in Canada, makes it look like the seals are public enemies that must be wiped out by all means and at all costs rather than being a means for sustenance. The hunters behave more of less like a bunch of sadistic headhunters out to eliminate an avowed enemy rather than a source of food.

Canada seems to be one of the more moderate governments on the planet, with a governing system that rivals some of the best democracies on earth. With such a pristine surface and an underbelly of darkness as in the case of brutal seal hunting, I bet many foreigners are asking themselves about what other dark secrets those Canadians have to hide.

I believe it is in the spirit of this way of thinking that Pamela Anderson, who has been known to champion several cases of inhumane treatment of animals is taking on the Canadian government to give a thought to finding a more humane method for harvesting seals.

Human beings all over the planet are at the top of the food chain. Imagine if we were as intelligent as we are but are actually food for some alien life forms who decide to harvest us just like Canadians harvest seal. I wonder how that will make us feel.

Nobody is saying that Northerners cannot make their living off seal. What most are saying is that this is something that helps you grow, perhaps you should treat it with a little more respect. Most people who seat down to dinner every evening say their grace and give thanks to God for providing the opportunity to have something to eat while asking for his blessing. Can those who treat their food with such a high degree of pent up hatred actually have the latitude to beseech God for such a blessing? Because, it does appear as if those who hunt seals do so because they have something against the seals.

Ducks are revered in Canada, even as they pose a health hazard and an economic liability with the hefty amount of waste matter that they dump all over the parks. Perhaps seals, especially baby seals deserve better treatment from the Canadian Government. Rather than ask Ms Anderson to go get first hand experience of how seal hunting is sustaining northern economy, I believe fellow Canadians should heed what she has to say.
